mahabharat katha

This is the educational video i made about the legend of Nepal King Yalamber who is mentioned in the Mahabharat epic.
Legend has it that when King Yalamber heard about the great battle that was to be fought in the distant plains of Kurukshetra, he too wanted to participate in this battle. So donning a fierce and silver mask of Bhairav(the fierce manifestation of Lord Shiva), he went with his army. At the battle field he was met by Krishna(Commander of Pandavas army), who asked him whose side he was on. He replied that he would take the side of the losing army. Krishna fearing that the fearsome warrior would join the Kauravas, decapitated his head with such force that it flew past the Himalayas to Kathmandu and rested at the place where the Akash Bhairav temple now stands. It is believed Bhairav witnessed the Mahabharat war from the very place where it landed on its head. The Akash Bhairav temple, a three storey structure now stands in the busy square of Indra Chowk. Akash Bhairav mask is displayed outside for a week during Indra Jatra festival in Kathmandu. So in this Indra Jatra festival people worship the ancestor leader as a great blue mask of Akash Bhairav whose eyes are turned forever skyward.

The other side of the story is narrated in this video on how Krishna tricked Yalamber into surrendering his head thus stopping Yalamber from taking part in the war.

According to this, King Yalamber went to Kurukshetra long before the war. Along the way he met Krishna disguised as Brahmin. King Yalamber asked why the Mahabharat war had not commenced. Brahmin( actually Krishna), surprised to hear a human ask about the future war of which only the Gods knew became worried and inquire more about Yalamber to examine his strength. He baited Yalamber by mocking him for going to the great battle with only three arrows. Krishna challenged him by putting his soul (life) aside, atop a huge tree. Yalamber targeted the tree upon which Krishna took his soul on the tip of his thumb. The king then aimed towards Krishna's thumb. Nearing defeat, Krishna allowed him a boon to which Yalamber boastfully replied, "I am mightier. You ask me for one." And so Krishna in Brahmin disguise asked Yalamber to surrender his head to him.

But there was one wish Yalamber wanted and that wish was to see the entire Mahabharat war in which he was granted. It is said that he watched the entire war from the town of Bhedasing.

Hope people like my video. It took me lot of time to do research and again lot of time to make a video. so i hope my time and effort is not lost in telling the story of nepal king yalamber.
